Safety

Safety is always our top priority at Infrabel, including for our contractors and their subcontractors. Every day, hundreds of people work on expanding and modernising the railway infrastructure. That is why we invest (in collaboration with our contractors) in training, clear procedures and an open safety culture. Find out here how, together with our contractors and their subcontractors, we are continuing to build a safe future on the railways.

Safety Charter

Safety is our top priority, including for our contractors. In consultation with them, we have drawn up a Safety Charter aimed at further strengthening safe working practices on our sites by promoting appropriate behaviour. In early 2023, we signed this charter together with TUC RAIL and many contractors and subcontractors working in the railway sector. By the end of 2023, new contractors and subcontractors had also joined, primarily involved in landscaping and crane operations. In doing so, we are committed to improving safety on our railway sites.

The Safety Rocks symposium was held for the first time in October 2022. The aim was to work constructively with contractors to improve safety on our sites across various areas, such as near-miss reports, pre-job briefings and Last Minute Risk Analyses. Safety Rocks is now an annual symposium, but there are also many ongoing contacts with our contractors and subcontractors. Since 2024, all employees of contractors and their subcontractors have been required to hold a ‘Basic Safety in Railway Works’ certificate. This certificate, which can be obtained from an independent body, proves that the employee possesses sufficient basic knowledge regarding safety on and around the railways.
